January Catalyst Update
Last year a group of parents began forming a board to support the MST students and teachers. One goal of this board, the Catalysts, is to improve communications and Mr. Zwanzig will send out a monthly newsletter to the MST parents with some of the news of what is occurring at Manual. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, Ann Schwartz, at annmerm@gmail.com
There are two other MST magnet based boards at Manual. The first one is duPont Manual Regional Science Fair (dMRSF) which runs the Regional Science Fair and sends the winners to the INTEL International Science Fair. They are currently looking for judges. If you wish to judge please sign up at the following link, https://dupontmanual.stemwizard.com/public_site/judge_register For more information please contact Vidya Ravichandran at vidya@glowtouch.com
The other board is for the Science Olympiad (SciOly) team. This is a new board and looking for volunteers and board members. If you are interested in helping, please contact Vidya Ravichandran at vidya@glowtouch.com The list of open positions for the SciOly Booster club are President, Secretary, Travel Committee Chairperson, Fundraising Committee Chairperson, and Competition Committee Chairperson. Anyone is free to nominate themselves. The only criteria is to be willing to put in the work.

Student Leadership: Sasank Vishnubhatla (President), Sanjana Rane (VP), Shravan Ravishankar (Treasurer), Kevin Tien (Secretary)
Teacher Sponsor: Mr. Baar
Mission: SNHS is a prominent scientific organization that will engender a new group of young thinkers who will be the future of industry, research, and scientific exploration for America.
Member requirements: To be an SNHS member, you must have a 3.0 GPA with a 3.5 GPA in science classes. Additionally, you must be a sophomore or above.
Current Membership: There are currently 30 members in SNHS. Most of the members are in MST, but students of all magnets are invited to join!
Current activities: Students have been working on creating presentations for TED-Ed. One of the presentations addresses genome editing, and the other focuses on political science. Our members have also been involved with math-science volunteering throughout the community, including helping Meyzeek Science Olympiad and volunteering with the Kentucky Science Center.
Goals: As always, we hope to inspire science around Manual and the greater Louisville community through volunteer services. One new goal that we’ve focused on this year is to publish a TED-Ed talk. Most of our meetings involve brainstorming and preparing for the talk.
Benefits: Science National Honor Society helps forge the scientists and innovators of the future. In SNHS, anyone with a passion for science will find a welcoming community of like-minded thinkers eager to share ideas. We also have pizza at some of our meetings!
